How Trim Works
Trim painting rewards patience — here's our process:
Estimate & Scope
We look at the linear footage and condition of the trim and provide a free written estimate.
Clean & Sand
Trim is wiped down and lightly sanded so paint adheres evenly, especially over old glossy coats.
Caulk the Joints
Gaps between trim and wall or trim and trim are caulked for a clean, continuous line.
Mask Adjacent Surfaces
Walls and floors next to the trim are taped off to keep lines crisp.
Paint in Coats
Trim is painted in thin, even coats — usually semi-gloss or satin — for a durable, wipeable finish.
Final Line Check
We inspect every run of trim in good light and touch up any spot that needs it.
Finishes & Prep Approach
Trim gets more contact and wear than wall surfaces, so we typically recommend semi-gloss or satin — finishes that clean easily and hold a sharp edge against wall paint.
Caulking before painting matters more on trim than almost anywhere else in a house — it's what actually creates that crisp line between trim and wall, not just careful cutting-in.
On exterior trim (fascia, soffit, porch details) we prep the same way as exterior siding — scraping, spot-priming bare wood, and caulking — since trim is often the first place paint fails outdoors.
