How Deck Painting Works
A deck refinish generally moves through these steps:
Assess & Estimate
We check board condition, note any repairs needed, and provide a free written estimate.
Wash & Strip
The deck is pressure washed to remove built-up dirt, mildew, and old peeling coatings.
Sand & Repair
Rough or splintering boards are sanded smooth, and any loose fasteners or boards are addressed.
Let It Dry
We let the wood dry fully before coating — trapped moisture is the most common reason a deck finish fails early.
Apply Finish
Paint or stain is applied evenly across decking, railings, and stairs.
Final Check
We walk the deck with you to confirm coverage and coating quality before wrapping up.
Finishes & Prep Approach
Deck finishes take more abuse than any other exterior surface — direct sun, standing water, and foot traffic all shorten a coating's life if the prep is rushed.
We typically recommend a solid or semi-solid finish for decks with heavier wear, since it hides grain imperfections and holds color longer than a thin, transparent stain.
Letting the wood dry completely after washing (and before coating) is one of the most important steps — we build that drying window into the schedule rather than rushing to finish in a single visit.
