How Exterior Painting Works
Exterior work follows a weather-aware sequence:
On-Site Estimate
We walk the full exterior, note problem areas, and put together a free written estimate.
Wash & Prep
Siding is pressure washed to remove dirt, mildew, and chalking paint so the new coat has a clean surface to bond to.
Scrape & Caulk
Loose or peeling paint is scraped, gaps and joints are caulked, and bare wood is spot-primed.
Protect Landscaping
Plants, walkways, and fixtures near the house are covered before spraying or rolling begins.
Paint the Exterior
Siding, trim, and accent areas are painted in the sequence that keeps lines crisp between colors.
Final Inspection
We walk the exterior with you in daylight to check coverage and lines before calling the job complete.
Finishes & Prep Approach
Charlotte's summer humidity and UV exposure are hard on exterior paint, so proper prep — washing, scraping, and caulking — matters more here than the paint brand itself.
We typically use a flat or low-sheen finish on large siding areas and a satin or semi-gloss on trim, which sheds water better and shows brush marks less than a high-gloss finish.
Two-story homes get the same prep standard as single-story — we don't skip washing or scraping on hard-to-reach elevations just because they're less visible from the street.
What Affects Cost & Timeline
Every project is different, so we quote after a walkthrough rather than guessing over the phone. Here's what generally moves the price and schedule:
Total exterior square footage and number of stories
Siding material — wood and stucco generally need more prep than vinyl or fiber cement
Condition of existing paint (peeling and bare wood add scraping and priming time)
Number of colors and trim detail
Access — steep rooflines, tall gables, or fenced-in areas can affect scheduling
